MSI's VR220 YA Edition laptop reviewed: average, or just slightly above

MSI's VR220 YA Edition laptop is a unique piece, packing a tiny 12.1-inch frame (which usually demands a premium) and a relatively reasonable $699 price tag. The laptop straddles an interesting fence, providing better performance than a netbook and less sex appeal than most other 12.1-inchers around. On one hand, the 2GHz T3200 CPU is a nice step above the Atoms that are popping up everywhere else, but on the other, the (comparatively) bulky frame, "cheap feeling keyboard" and "polarizing design" are features you aren't to appreciate. So, who exactly is this thing good for (if anyone)? Laptop Mag feels that students looking for an ultraportable on a budget will probably find what they need, but folks obsessed with performance or petiteness will probably care to pass. MSI Wind U120 gets spotted, examined in the wild

We've already seen a few shots of MSI's forthcoming Wind U120 netbook, but our pals at Engadget Chinese have now taken in one of its first public appearances and, naturally, they've provided plenty of pics for folks to dive into. That includes some close-up shots of the netbook's slightly revised port situation, some comparison shots with the non-two tone U100, and even another glimpse of that 9-cell battery we've already seen floating about. MSI also had it's full-fledged Bravo EX620 laptop on display, though it's a pretty safe bet that we won't be seeing it 'round these parts anytime soon.

MSI's 10-inch Wind U100 falls to $349 at Best Buy

In an apparent effort to move every last unit before ASUS drops a $200 Eee PC in 2009, Best Buy has knocked $50 off of MSI's 10-inch Wind U100. The Atom N270-powered netbook now checks in at just $349, a price that just seems to fit so much better with the term "netbook" than, say, $500+. The real question, however, is: three fifty low enough for you?

MSI on track to ship 700,000 Wind PCs in 2008

Even with Asustek firmly holding onto the number one spot for netbook sales, MSI is doing quite well with the Wind. According to most recent estimates, the company is on track to reach upwards of 700,000 units shipped this year. While that still puts them behind Asustek by a considerable margin, with the Eee selling 700,000 in September alone, it still puts them ahead of their own estimates by quite a bit.


MSI's sales are expected to increase as the year ends, and given how much more time the Eee has had on the market, 2009 could prove to be a year when the Wind stands right beside the Eee. There's no mention if MSI's recent introduction of the Wind 3.5G has affected these sales.
